Praying

Apparently, my thoughts turn to spiritual guidance of some sort when I am faced with the daunting task of returning to middle school:)

Here is a favorite poem by Mary Oliver:

Praying

It doesn't have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don't try
to make them elaborate, this isn't
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.

  1. it's funny that you chose this poem today. When I was at Small Farm surrounded by a field of flowers, I never felt closer to a higher being (or more "in the moment" in DBT speak). The beauty of it and my thankfulness for being there with David literally brought me to tears.
    thanks for sharing this poem.
